Exalted Ruler’s Message

October, 2015

Did we have a summer? I shore didn’t see much of it. The weather wasn’t conducent to being at the swimming pool. All we can do is hope for more sun next year.

Speaking of fun, the entertainment Committee had lots of stuff for us so far this year. Jimmy Buffet party, the Honor Flight party with the Reunion Band, JD Owens at the Labor Day Cookout, the Kids Days, Ryan and Susan. Wow!!! And just so you know, they all will be back next summer.

JD Owens will be at our Christmas Dinner. He loves to dress up as Santa and sing Christmas songs. Everyone should enjoy it.

Jeff Jenson is working on a charity event with 4 or 5 bands in January.

I am working on a reverse raffle giving away about 20 guns and a John Deere Lawn Tractor. If anyone has any suggestions, please let me know.

For the month of October, this is an excellent time to bring your friends into the Elks membership. The initiation fee is reduced from $25 to $1 and the dues for the rest of the year are only $50. Also think about the past Elk members that who dropped their membership for some reason, talk to them and tell them we would love to have them back to our Elks Lodge.

In closing for this month I have two groups to thank!!

  1.  Our Volunteers: Thanks to all of you. You keep our lodge going.
  2.  To all of our new members: WOW- You are sincerely welcome to our Lodge. I feel it an honor that you chose to be with us. Thanks for coming aboard. We really want to hear your ideas.

Thanks again,
Jim

September, 2015

The month of August has found our Lodge with 11 new members. What a great addition! I encourage all of members to reach out to your friends and neighbors and show them what we as Elks do for our community.

This year so far we have purchased 2 new Kayaks for Riverside park, we purchased 2 monitoring units for the Sheriffs office for persons with Alzheimer’s disease. Our lodge has sponsored the Hoop Shoot, Soccer Shoot, sponsored a Little League baseball team. We contributed a $2,000 grant to Honor Flight, $6,200 in Student Scholarships in 2014 and $8,500 in Student Scholarships this summer. We also contributed $1,500 to the Backyard Mission Trip, $500 to the American Red Cross Military Bash, $500 to CASA/GAL of Hancock County. In June we Hosted the Hancock County Veterans Office resource fair in our Banquet Hall and then gave our county Veterans and their families a free dinner. At the Hancock County Fair we are partnered with the County Veterans Office and will sponsor the Veterans that comes to the County Veterans Booth a $5 food voucher at the fair.

With all of this said, tell your friends and neighbors what the Elk’s are all about!!! OUR COMMUNITY AND IT’S CITIZENS!!! Take a membership application to them and give them the opportunity to be a part of the great organization.

I would like to thank all the Volunteers that have given their time to our Lodge. Sunday august 30 we had a cookout for them. For those who could not make it, I am sorry you couldn’t be there but we want you to know we do appreciate you and all you do.

On Labor Day we are having a cookout for all Elk’s and Pool/Tennis club. JD Owen (of Put in Bay fame) will be at the Elk’s playing his tunes. The cookout and event are free. There will be free burgers/dogs/brats. So come hungry.

Also the 2 weekends following Labor Day, the pool will be open on Saturday and Sunday from noon – 8pm and is open to anyone. This would be a great time to invite your friends and neighbors to come and enjoy the pool and tennis courts.

Thanks to All,
Jim
